(Editor's Note: The next few posts will include KidBlog posts by AVID student who were asked in a class assignment to define "titan" and infer why the name was chosen for our school's mascot.)
In Greek mythology, the Titans were members of the second order of divine beings, descending from the beginning of time. Some sources say that the Titans included the first twelve children of the Mother Earth and Father Heaven. They were giant gods of incredible strength, who ruled during the legendary Golden Age, and also made up the first group of Greek gods and goddesses.
Why was the name "Titan" chosen as our school mascot?
I think titans was chosen as our school mascot to show that we are legends and will not be forgotten for our great leadership. We will not go down until we are satisfied. Some may think of us a nothing, but when we are together everyone comes to our needs. When anyone is in need of help good or bad we will always be there. Even if you may not realize what we are, inside we all know we have what it takes to be TITANS!
So, who is a titan? A titan could be anyone, as long as they show leadership, honesty, and good workmanship. A titan always knows what to do, and in that case if you show what you can do to the world you are pretty much a Titan whether you notice it or not. Everyone knows Titans will not give up and will always reach to their highest standards. So do you have what it takes to be a Titan?

The word Titan can be expressed as a god or someone that is super intelligent like Albert Einstein, who was a extremely intellectual person, but those aren't the only Titans. We are Titans. We are intellectual titans that have futures. The real definition of a titan according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is a person that stands out for greatness of an achievement. We lead by example and will always lead that way.
I believe that a titan is our school mascot because back then Titans were leaders they lead by example, like us and the first principal here wanted us to do the same and lead by example, and we will. We will always be titans and we will be remembered by other schools because as a Titan we don't give a tiny push to help someone get through something -- we give them a huge push.
I know quite a few people who, like Titans, are always standing out for greatness: like my older brother who went to this amazing school and he’s now twenty one years of age and still leads by example and lives by that motto. I also know my friends Kaleb, Keane, Giovonny, Joshua, and Jason. They all try to lead by example, as I do too and we give anyone and everyone that needs help with anything so they notice that Titans are gracious, forgiving, caring, realiable, and ready for anything.
