So what does an assistant principal do? Well, I can only say what THIS one does and here's how today looked for me. I came to work early (about 6:45 a.m.) to get 504 paperwork ready. I finished and walked across to the cafeteria to help with our students about 8:20. Somewhere in there I stopped to check with Mr. Zahn about our severe weather drill planned for later in the day.
I spent the greater portion of the morning between first period and first lunch shift investigating and talking through an issue that had happened previously in athletics. This was sandwiched around our regularly scheduled staffing that we have at 10 a.m. on Thursdays.
During first lunch shift a teacher made me aware of another incident that occurred in a classroom. I spent a while investigating that incident and helping get students mediated and back into class.
We conducted our first severe weather drill for this semester and it went well. It helps us to have a solid plan in place for emergencies.
The rest of my day was finished as I ate lunch and worked on completing some documentation from classroom walkthroughs for our PDAS or Professional Development and Appraisal System.
Over all, it was a good day. We have a great staff and faculty. I'm thankful to be able to serve everyone and to be a part of another successful school year at Ferguson.
