Hurricane Arlington came barreling through here last week with thunderstorms, high winds and heavy rains. Naively thinking it was just a small storm, I continued to work. I did think it was odd that I could not see the cars parked in front of my classroom, but I was giving a make-up test so the weather situation outside had to wait. I decided to delay my departure from our lovely facility until the rain let up and I went home. By the time I was on I-20 and looked out my rearview mirror it was smooth sailing and sunny skies in Arlington, Texas. I get home, tend to the kids, and go to bed.
I wake in a panic! My house phone, and cell phone ring almost simultaneously and I get a text. Who died? What exploded? Something is wrong! No school? Why? It was sunny and everything was normal when I left. Denial set in and I decided not to accept this little gift of a free day until I heard from my people at Ferguson. Then I get the glorious call and hear the sweet harmonious sound of Mr. Dunn’s voice on the other end confirming this little miracle. My kids still have school! What am I going to do with myself?!?!?! I was so excited I could not go to back to sleep.
Although this will probably add a day to the end of our last year together, that is one more day I get to spend with you beautiful people.
