We have good student here at Ferguson. That shouldn't come as surprise and I'm pretty sure that sometimes we would have to be convinced of it, but all in all, we have good students. Dennick, Cole and I took 68 7th graders to The University of Texas at Arlington this week to participate in the AISD 7th Grade AVID Campus Tour. There were more than 900 twelve and thirteen year olds from all of the district's junior highs.
It's an annual trip and the students really enjoy it. This year, our 2-year drought (I'm exaggerating) ended and we were faced with a 100% chance of rain and, sure enough, it was raining. As a result, the UTA hosts adjusted bravely and everything was moved to the new College Park Arena and we did tour of the campus without the walking tour.
More than 900+ students in a basketball arena for 4 hours. What to do?
Well, for one thing, you could always set your AVID teacher on fire as a part of a chemistry experiment! Yep, I agreed, along with 2 other AVID teachers to be test subjects. All I can tell you is that it involves soap bubbles made with propane gas, a match and flames. And, yes, it was really hot. Check out the video below. That's me on the right. Thanks to Mrs. Dennick for the video!
I guess my point is that faced with the disappointment of not getting to walk the campus, our students behaved really well. Not unexpected -- just appreciated.
